|The intensity and pattern of rainfalls has affected the cultivation of rice, the main product in Udaipur area and source of income of thousands of families. According to farmers in the region, the last 15 years have been very dry and their production has been decaying approximately 3% per year, according to Ram Basnet (coordinator of NIDS). However, 2016 was an exceptional year with more rain and consequently better production. Because of the growing challenges faced specially in the cultivation of rice, several households have members of the family who migrated to work abroad in other sectors. In most cases it is the men of the family that leave and send remittances from abroad. Udayapur, Nepal, is one of the regions in the country vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Several families have lost their houses and livelihoods due flooding. They also face difficulties with their plantations because of changes on rain patterns.
